About The Adrien and Martin Joly Blog

Brothers Adrien and Martin follow in the footsteps of many travelers who crossed the Balkans from antiquity to modern times. But they do it by bicycle! Starting on October 6, they have given themselves one month to cycle the nearly 2,100-kilometre distance between Venice and Istanbul. In their blog, they reflect on and document their journey as they travel through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Their blog in French is at http://balkansavelo.unblog.fr/

A complete day in Hvar Island, very relaxing.

We spend the whole day on a... Full Story

We wake with all our cats…

Leaving Dubrovnik on the E65 is scary, buses pass so close to us, the road is very narrow, and we can see the deep on our right hand side.. If we stay in the middle, they horn at us, if we are on the... Full Story

From Kotor to Budva… The catastrophe

October 22, 2008 • 0 Comments Montenegro

Things start badly this morning, impossible to find something to fix Martin's bike..

We spend the morning trying to understand what is broken in the complex “changing gear system”, for four hours until we give up… and use an elastic to make it work… .

Adrien is annoyed that we might not... Full Story

Peaceful day in Zadar

October 16, 2008 • 0 Comments Croatia

After the last day of hard cycling, we spend the day relaxing in Zadar. Not really in fact, we have to update the website, charge all our electric devises and our bodies need a rest. Knees and bottom are particularly in pain.

We do a bit of shopping for us and also for “Connor and... Full Story

When not travelling, Adrien works as at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton as an interpreter, while Martin works for an NGO in Paris. Adrien considers his first important journey to have been when he travelled along the Amazon River and relied on the local people’s hospitality 10 years ago.
