Russian Interest in Wine Tourism in Bulgaria Grows

Such packages have started to be offered only in the last few years. For now, Russian tourists prefer wine tours as part of a broader vacation package or excursion, rather then trips entirely dedicated to touring wineries, Katya Zhekova from Bulgaria’s Agency for Tourism told the Russian online publication Tourinfo.
Bulgaria is a good wine tourism destination, because of the wide spread of wine-growing and its consistency throughout the year. “Vines are grown in almost every region of the country,” Zhekova said, adding that such tours can take place year round, because “the wineries are working all the time.”
Special events connected to wine in the winter are the Trifon Zarezan holiday, marked on February 14, when wine-makers traditionally prune their vines in a blessing ritual for an abundant harvest.
