Montenegro: First Eco Festival to Take Place in Herceg Novi

The festival, which is to e held in the Spanjola Fortress between June 19 and 21, is aimed at promoting ecology, encouraging sports and recreation, fostering sustainable development, protecting and revitalizing natural and cultural heritage as well as boosting tourism.
Following an opening ceremony on Friday, a music event featuring Montenegrin bands and local and international DJs will begin at 6 pm. On Saturday, starting at 5 pm, more bands will perform, including Utopija srednje klase (Middle-class Utopia), Human, VIS Gorenje and Autumn for Free, followed by DJ sets at the after-party event starting at 11 pm.
During the day on Saturday, there will be a triathlon on the route from the Boka Beach, via Njivice to the Admiral Beach and back.
During the festival’s last day, visitors will be able to take part in a bowling tournament, enjoy a concert of the harmony-singing group Castel Nuovo and performance of the church choir from Herceg Novi.
The festival’s closing ceremony will overlap with the sunset which sees of the longest day of the year.
Admission to the event is free, with the exception of the music events – tickets for the concerts and DJ performances cost 2 euro for the Friday performances and 3 euro for the Saturday ones.
The Eco Festival’s organizers told the visit-montenegro.com website that they intend to turn the festival into a traditional event that takes place five times a year in venues that are “cultural heritage and public zones that need to be revitalized.”

I remember walking along Canal Street in New York’s Chinatown on March 2 a few years ago, when I saw a man sporting a small ornament made of red and white thread pinned to his coat lapel.
