Mass Bike Ride to Demand Free Use of Beaches on Greece’s Saronic Gulf

BalkanTravellers.com

18 June 2009 | A mass bike procession, demanding the free access of citizens to the beaches in the Saronic Gulf will be organised by 12 municipalities in the region.

Beaches such as Vula, Vouliagmeni, Faliro, Vari and Kalamaki, enjoy immense popularity among Athenians, since getting to them from the capital is made easy by public transportation, the Greek radio Sky reported today.

Currently, however, few of the beaches are freely accessible, as most require payment in order to be used.

The bike procession will take place on Sunday, while citizens are also planning other initiatives in protest of the paid access to the beaches.

But the kind that, when heard, mesmerises you and gives you goose bumps. The kind that is haunting with its out-of-this universe quality.
