EC Liaison Office Supports Fête de la Musique in Kosovo

Text by KosovoTimes.net

June 24 2009 | The Fête de la Musique kicked off on Sunday, 21 June, throughout Kosovo. The European Commission Liaison Office to Kosovo supported this cultural event within the scope of contributing to raising Kosovo's international cultural profile and fostering inter-community cultural exchanges.

This initiative was also supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Municipality of Prishtina, the Embassy of France and the French Cultural Centre.

Pristina is taking part in this international event for the second time and is officially registered in the Fête de la Musique network of participating cities. Festa e Muzikes 2009 programme in Kosovo contained events organised in several cities, such as a live classical music concert in the Lipjan/Ljiplane juvenile correction centre, and a multi-cultural concert in Prizren organised between two cultural heritage sites: Sinan Pasha Mosque and Episcopal St. George Church. In addition, there were several live events organised in Pristina.

Each year on 21 June, more than 250 cities in 100 countries worldwide take part in this event. Different from a festival, Fête de la Musique is a free and multicultural event open to both amateur and professional musicians, attracting large segments of local audiences. It covers a wide range of musical styles in all kinds of indoor and outdoor places, aiming at popularizing musical practice and it is held in traditional and unexpected music venues, such as open-air venues, in streets, shopping centres, cultural heritage sites, prisons, parks, on the moving truck etc.
