Bulgaria: Archaeologists Present Recent Finds from Ancient Thrace
BalkanTravellers.com
The artefacts were discovered in late November and early October in a burial tomb dating back to the end of the first and beginning of the second century AD, located near the village of Karanovo in south-eastern Bulgaria, as BalkanTravellers.com reported recently.
The finds in the tomb of the aristocrat, who – archaeologists say, belonged to a rich family descended from the ruling strata in the Odrysian Kingdom (fifth to the third centuries BC), included gold rings, silver cups and gold-coated, silver, bronze and clay vessels. Two silver cups with images of the god of love, Eros, were among the valuable discoveries.
As BalkanTravellers.com reported, the archaeologists from the Nova Zagora History Museum will continue their exploration of the Thracian tomb on the spot during the coming winter months after a special shelter is built on the site.

There are attempts at recovery, reform, re-consolidation; perhaps a war, or a grand alliance, or another gamble which seems mad in hindsight. Private fiefdoms emerge, tribes break away, and hostile external powers chip away at the borders.
