23 November 2009 | One of the oldest gold treasures in the world, discovered at the Varna Necropolis in Bulgaria, which is exhibited in New York has attracted enormous attention, Valentin Pletnyov, director of the Regional History Museum in Varna, said in a recent press conference.

The gold treasure, as BalkanTravellers.com reported recently, is part of the exhibition “The Lost World of Old Europe: The Danube Valley, 5000-3500 BC,” which will be displayed by New York University’s Institute for the Study of the Ancient World until April 25.

In addition to the gold artefacts from Varna, the exhibition, showing a total of 2,000 objects, also contains ancient treasures from Romania and Moldova.

The opening of the show was attended by 200 people, Pletnyov said, including archaeology specialists, diplomats, politicians and journalists.
