Bulgarian Danube Cruise Company Finds Ways to Extend Season

BalkanTravellers.com

17 March 2010 | The Bulgarian cruise company Dunav Tours registered an interest towards the use of its ships as hotels and for alternative purposes at the International Tourism Trade Show in Berlin, representatives of the Ruse-based company told media recently.

In this way, like with the Christmas and Easter cruises organised by the company, Dunav Tours will manage to extend the tourism season for its five vessels intended for passenger cruising along Europe’s internal water ways.

The new season for Dunav Tours this year will start on March 20 with a cruise from Vienna in Austria through Esztergom in Hungary, Belgrade in Serbia and Passau in Germany, the Dnevnik newspaper reported recently.

The ship “Sofia” will host the international Danube music festival. Musicians from the eight countries located along the Danube will join and play together, to explore their musical and cultural traditions. They will be joined by guests from Armenia, Russia, Greece and other countries.

This will be the floating festival’s second edition with the participation of jazz, classical and folk musicians. Between March 20 and April 1, guests will have the chance to come on board the ship for 3, 4, 6 days or for its entire duration.

As BalkanTravellers.com reported in February, Dunav Tours this season will begin offering tours all the way to the Danube Delta and the town of Vylkove in the Lower Danube, while it previously carried out cruises only on the upper part of the river.

In Sfakia: Passing Time in the Wilds of Crete (2008) | By Peter Trudgill

Crete has long been acknowledged as one of the most singular and unique parts of Greece. Its people keep a fierce hold on their traditions, customs and history. Practically a country of its own, this vast island looms over all others in Greece. Nevertheless, as In Sfakia author Peter Trudgill aptly notes in his preface, “some parts of Crete are more special than others, and Sfakia, on the remote south coast, is certainly one of those.” Full Story
