23 August 2010 | Turkey attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest and most crowded table recently, when 41,000 people gathered in a dinner to break the daily Ramadan fast, hosted by Istanbul’s Esenler Municipality.

The 41,000 people sat on 7,020 tables with a total length of 10 kilometres.

According to Turkish media, Guiness officials were also present at the event, which stretched along the district’s longest avenue.

The dinner to break the fast was recorded by a team of Guinness consisting of 50 members, who will send the record to the United Kingdom, Professor Orhan Kural, representative of the Guinness Book of Records in Turkey told media.

A total of 10 tons of rice, 8 tons of meat, baklava, water and other beverages were served to the participants during the dinner.

The earlier record holder for the most crowded dining table was a dinner in Washington, which hosted 16,250 people.
