Easter Egg Sculpure Raised in the Croatian Town Koprivnica

Balkan Travellers

25 March 2008 | A giant sculpture of an Easter egg was raised in the centre of the Croatian town of Koprivnica, in the northern part of the country, the Croation television HRT reported.

The sculpture was elevated on the occasion of the Catholic Easter which was celebrated last Sunday in Croatia, where nearly 90 per cent of the population is Catholic.

The creation was donated by the Koprivnica-Križevci county, of which Koprivnica is the capital, and the county’s Tourism Union. It was made by painters and sculptors from the village of Hlebine, one of the centres of Croatian naïve art.

The wooden egg was placed in a special nest, the media reported.
