Rafting Season Begins in Bulgaria

Balkan Travellers

3 April 2008 | With the beginning of spring and the resulting melting of the snow, rafting season will be officially opened this weekend in Bulgaria, to the delight of adventure sports fans in the country.

On April 5 and 6, four Bulgarian extreme sports clubs – Adventure Net, House for Books and Adventures, Fast Waters and X-Club, will organize rafting demonstrations in the fast Struma River, in the region of the Kresna Gorge in south-western Bulgaria.

On Saturday, rafting teams, journalists and guests are to meet at 10am, at the gorge’s beginning. During the day, the more adventurous ones will have the chance to try out rafting, while others will be able to simply observe from the bridges over the river.

In the evening, a party with fireworks will celebrate the new season’s beginning.

Most of the sports clubs participating in the event are already well-established in extreme sports in Bulgaria. They offer various options to those who want to try their hand at rafting – ranging from a day-trip to several nights, complete with camping in the woods.
