Bosnia and Herzegovina Asks for Free Visas to the EU
BalkanTravellers.com
The country’s foreign minister, Sven Alkalaj, is expected to send an official plea to the EU and the Council of Europe by the end of the week, according to the Serbian radio B92, and will expect a quick reaction.
Since the beginning of the year, about 20 categories of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been exempted from the fee and, if Alkalaj’s request is granted, fees will be dropped entirely starting next year.
As BalkanTravellers.com reported in connection to the liberalisation of the EU’s visa regime towards Albania, the Union is undertaking a general initiative to ease visa restrictions for the Western Balkan countries. It started a dialogue with Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro at the beginning of the year, while Albanian citizens enjoy a lowered fee and some categories of them, such as students, cultural workers and journalists have easier access to visas.
