Macedonia to be Connected to Montenegro’s Coast by Direct Flights

BalkanTravellers.com

3 July 2008 | A direct flight will soon connect Macedonia’s capital to Monenegro’s coast, Macedonian president Branko Crvenkovski announced during his official visit to Montenegro, following a meeting with his counterpart Filip Vujanovic.

“As the president Vujanovic also said, it would be good – on the threshold of the new tourist season, that we establish better transport communications, including a direct air link between Skopje and Montenegro’s coast. I think that this will soon be realised,” Crvenkovski was quoted as saying by national and regional media.

According to the official website of the Skopje Airport, there are currently no flights between Macedonia’s capital and Montenegro. The new flights, if realised, will contribute to the improvement of the air connections within the region. Currently, many cities throughout the Balkans are not linked by direct flights and travellers are forced to go between them by car or on flights via Central Europe.

This mode of operation has been in place since 5:17am on July 26, 1963, when the Macedonian capital was half-destroyed by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 on the Richter Scale.
