The amount is needed in order to undertake massive work along the line, which would increase trains’ speed to 160 kilometres per hour, the national newspaper Politika reported recently.
In addition to the rail lines, Serbia will have to invest 1.7 billion euro in order to complete the road infrastructure along Corridor 10. “A part of this money will be secured from World Bank and European Investment Bank loans,” Mlađan Dinkić told media last week.
The pan-European Corridor 10 runs between Salzburg and Thessaloniki and serves as a key transit corridor that links Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia with Greece and Turkey. Out of its total planned length of 2,360 kilometres, 800 of them run through Serbia.
"There will be no justification for the Serbian government if Corridor 10 is not finished in the next three and a half years,” Dinkić told media recently.
