Tourists from Albania Spend More Abroad than at Home

BalkanTravellers.com

29 August 2008 | Albanian tourists prefer to spend their holidays and their money outside of Albania, the Albanian Central Bank’s recent data on the financial balance of tourism showed.

During the first half of 2008, the deficit of tourist services amounted to 23 million euro, compared to a registered 10 million euro surplus for the same period last year, according to the data cited in a publication of the Albanian Shekulli newspaper.

The deficit is attributed to the fact that Albanian tourists’ expenses abroad, currently reaching 494 million euro, have increased by 28 per cent, while the income of the country has increased only by 19 per cent, reaching 471 million, for the first six months of the year.

This numbers, in turn, are a result of the 36 per cent increase in the number of Albanian travelers and the higher prices in the EU.
