Visa-Free Regime between Albania and Macedonia Finally Established

BalkanTravellers.com

3 September 2008 | The agreement to drop the visa requirements that Albania and Macedonia reached in February finally came into force today, Albanian media reported.

The news was officially confirmed by the Albanian Interior Ministry’s press centre, the Panorama newspaper reported.

The agreement’s implementation, according to the publication, will positively affect the strengthening of the contacts between the two countries’ citizens.

As BalkanTravellers.com reported, Macedonia and Albania reached an agreement to forego the visa requirements for citizens of the two countries in February. The agreement came as a result of strong Albanian opposition to Skopje’s adoption in January of new, stricter visa procedures as part of the country’s candidacy to the EU.
