Greece to Liberalise Visa Regime for Citizens of Albania

BalkanTravellers.com

15 September 2008 | Greece will liberalise its visa regime for Albanians in the near future, the Greek ambassador to Albania told national media today.

Albanian citizens will be able to move freely around Greece’s territory soon, Nikolaos Pazios said during his visit of central and southern Albania.

Pazios met with local authority representatives of the Korçë region and guaranteed that Greece will support the region, according to the Albanian electronic media BalkanWeb.

Korçë, a region with a compact Greek minority, is located near Albania’s border with Greece in the south-eastern part of the country. The fact that Greek is spoken widely in southern Albania, as BalkanTravellers.com reported, has served as another incentive for many Greek tourists to head to their western neighbour for the holidays.

A visa regime liberalisation on the part of Greece will surely make life easier for many Albanians, because – as BalkanTravellers.com reported in August, Albanian citizens make up the largest group of economic immigrants in Greece.
