Greece’s Capital Gets its Own Tourist Company

1 October 2008 | Athens now has its own official tourist company which aims to promote the city in the world tourism market and turn it into one of the top destinations for city and business tourism, national media reported today.

Tourism has major significant to the Greek capital and the municipality of Athens wants to contribute to the city’s further tourism development, Nikitas Kaklamanis, the city’s mayor was quoted as saying by the Express newspaper.

The action plan of the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company was presented in the New Acropolis Museum building, the publication reported.

The company will maintain two websites – Breathtaking Athens, which is geared towards a wider user audience and potential visitors to the city and the Athens Convention Bureau, aimed at the professional market for business and conference tourism.
