Crafts Bazaar Underway in Macedonia’s Capital
BalkanTravellers.com
Some of the trades presented are terracotta, loom, filigree, gold thread and bookbinding handcrafts.
The bazaar, supported by the ProCredit Bank, ends the Craftsmanship Loan campaign, which sought to contribute to the development and promotion of craftsmanship, especially old and rare crafts, the Macedonian Information Agency reported recently. The bazaar itself contributes to preservation and continuation of Macedonian tradition and cultural heritage.
Visitors to the bazaar will also be able to enjoy the Cifte Amam building, situated in the center of Skopje’s Old bazaar, near Bezisten, Suli Aan and the Murat Pasha Mosque. Built as a Turkish bath by Isa beg in the mid-fifteenth century, its name means ‘double bath’ in Turkish. The amam has been used as a art gallery since it underwent renovation in 2002.
