Open Air Archaeology Exhibit Underway in Bulgaria’s Capital

The exhibition, which includes photographs by Nikolay Genov and texts by Professor Valeria Foll from the Thracology Institute to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, presents an unusual view into Bulgaria’s ancient Thracian heritage and focuses on the sculptures and images of the faces of deities, rulers and fantastical animals.
This exhibition, organized by the Cultural Projects Association and financed by the United Bulgarian Bank (UBB) and the Sofia Municipality, is the first initiative of the Permanent Open Air Gallery on the pedestrian bridge. The 30 display structures, sized 2.3 by 1.8 metres, which will make the space into a permanent exhibition area, were officially donated to the Sofia Municipality by UBB.
This is, however, not the first time that the pedestrian bridge near NDK, also colloquially known as the The Bridge of Sighs, houses an open-air exhibit. As BalkanTravellers.com reported a couple of years ago, an exhibition of large-scale photographs of Bulgaria taken from the air was displayed at the site, preceded by a show of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s Earth From Above images. Since then, the bridge has been used several times for exhibitions.
