As part of the congress, about 3,000 scientific works in the Slavonic field will be exhibited and then remain in permanent possession of Macedonia, the Dnevnik newspaper reported.
Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain and China will be promoted as new members of the International Slavonic Committee during the congress.
Slavic scientists from Greece were the only ones who did not respond to the invitation to attend the event, the publication noted.
The meeting will continue until September 16. It is hosted for the first time by Ohrid, considered to be the birthplace of the Cyrillic alphabet, which is used by some of the Slavic languages, including Belarusian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonian, Russian, Serbian and Ukrainian.

Private fiefdoms emerge, tribes break away, and hostile external powers chip away at the borders.
