The Cubs put Clint Fraser on the list of people with appendicitis

CHICAGO – Clint Fraser’s injury-strewn career took another blow on Friday when the Chicago Cubs announced the defensive player had been sidelined with appendicitis.

Fraser was placed on the infected list for 10 days, retrospectively through Wednesday.

27-year-old Frazier He missed his last 82 games last season with the New York Yankees due to dizziness. He signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Cubs after his release by the Yankees on November 19.

Frazier was hitting .143 (3 for 21) with two doubles and two times in 10 Cubs games.

Defender Alfonso Rivas of Triple-A Iowa has been called up.

Rivas, 25, made the opening day roster and was 2-for-4 before being selected to join Iowa State on April 16.

Injuries followed Frazier, a former Cleveland first-round pick in the 2013 draft, since he was traded to the Yankees as part of a 2016 final deal for left-hander Andrew Miller.

Frazier made his league debut in 2017, hitting 0.231 in 39 games for the Yankees. But he suffered a concussion in spring training in 2015 and was placed in IL for two stints related to his concussion, including a second trip from July 16 to the remainder of the season. He played in 15 games over four periods, hitting .265.

Frazier rebounded in 2019 with a career high of 14 doubles, 12 home points and 38 RBIs in 69 games. But he missed two weeks due to a sprained left ankle.

Frazier continued his short lead through the 60-game season in 2020 with a hitting average of 267, eight home runs and 26 RBI in 39 games, and 16 cleanup points. Frazier was a finalist for the AL Gold Glove in the right field after making one foul on 53 chances (981 participation percentage).

Score a home goal in Game 1 of the 2020 AL Division Series against Tampa Bay. But vertigo problems surfaced on him the following year, and a batting average of 186 in 66 games left him an expendable when the season ended.
