The Monitor 2 Servers were hit by a “massive” distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the game’s launch day.
This is according to Blizzard President Mike Ybarra, who said on Tuesday that the company is doing its best to solve the issues preventing players from accessing the game.
“Teams are working hard on server issues with Overwatch 2,” he wrote on Twitter. “We are humbled by the excitement of the players and will continue to focus on the issues and keep the players entertained! Thank you for your patience.

Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keeler said his time was “working all night” to solve the issues that plagued Overwatch 2’s launch day.
The game looks much more stable this morning, with huge queues and connection errors resolved on launch night.
“Unfortunately, we are witnessing a large-scale DDoS attack on our servers,” added Ybarra. “Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of/disconnection issues.”
An in-game message presented to affected players reads: “We are aware that some players are experiencing an unexpected server error message when trying to sign in. This is actively working on. Thank you for your patience.”
Players are required to attach a mobile phone number to their Battle.net account, but some users have them too Issues have been reported with this new security system.
Overwatch 2 will get seasonal updates every nine weeks and a Battle Pass featuring new content including heroes, game modes, maps, and cosmetics.
New players in this series will have to play 100 matches to unlock all the heroes of the original game. Other features such as in-game chat and the game’s competitive mode are also locked until new players meet certain requirements.
The decision to gate certain content and features is part of a preparatory process that calls Blizzard a name User experience for the first time.
