A man armed with a knife was arrested on Monday, while emergency services announced they were responding to a “major incident” in which several people had been stabbed.
Several people were injured in a stabbing attack in Southport, northwest of Great Britain, on Monday. Officers were contacted at 11.50am this morning after reports of an assault in the town center on Hart Street. A knife-wielding suspect was arrested by police and disarmed, British media reported. Emergency services announced they were responding to a scene involving multiple stab wounds. Officers are calling residents “Avoid that area (while they deal with this incident)”. However, they add up “There is no longer a significant threat to the public”.
A woman who lives minutes from the incident in Hart Street told the Liverpool Echo she heard sirens and a helicopter circling around 12:20pm local time. “Lock your windows, lock your doors messages started circulating on local WhatsApp groups and we were told that a person was running around stabbing people,” he adds.We were all completely scared, panicked and sick. Everyone tries to contact everyone they know in the area. I don’t know how this is going to happen on a Monday lunchtime.»
