The Israeli army announces the names of two martyred soldiers


On Friday, the Israeli army announced the names of two soldiers killed in a battle in the Gaza Strip with mortar shells.

Major Sgt. (Reserve) Omar Samadja, 25 years old, from Ganot Hadar, from the 9203rd Battalion in the Alexandroni Brigade, was martyred during the fighting in the central Gaza Strip.

Major Sgt. (Reserve) Saadia Yaqoub Deri, 27 years old, from Tel Aviv, from the 9203rd Battalion in the Alexandroni Brigade, was martyred in the fighting in the central Gaza Strip.

The army indicated that three soldiers were seriously injured in the same incident. They were taken to hospital to receive further medical treatment.

According to Israeli media, Omar is the son of Oren Smadja, a former judoka, Olympic medalist and coach of the Israeli judo team for the Olympic Games.

Sadiya Jacob Diri leaves behind his wife Rachel and two children aged two and one. He was studying for rabbinical exams before being drafted on October 7 into the reserves.

What happened?

A unit of the Alexandroni Brigade, moving on foot Thursday afternoon along the Netzarim Corridor, was ambushed by Hamas terrorists a relatively short distance away. The ambush fired five mortar shells at the soldiers.

The accident occurred minutes before 4 pm on Thursday. The process of evacuating the wounded was complicated, as IDF soldiers opened heavy fire towards the area where the terrorists fired mortar shells. IDF medical teams provided rapid initial treatment and evacuated injured soldiers using 669 helicopters to hospitals in central Israel.
