The Warriors fall to the Lakers on returning Stephen Curry from a leg injury

Date:

The good news for the Golden State Warriors is that they have their MVP back.

The bad news is that a five-game winning streak is over after the Warriors fell 113-105 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena.

Curry led Golden State with 27 points but was only 8 of 20 from the field (5 of 13 of 3) after a slow start. He scored 19 of his points in the fourth quarter.

But his late rise wasn’t enough to top a 39-point, 8-rebound, and 6-assist performance by Anthony Davis to lead the Lakers.

Curry missed the last 11 games after suffering a partial tear in his lower left leg in the February 4 game against the Dallas Mavericks.

He capped off what was a stellar season for the 34-year-old former two-time MVP. He was averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while shooting 49.5% from the field and 42.7% from 3-point range entering Sunday.

The Warriors have had an up and down season after winning the championship last summer. They are now 34-31 and fifth in the Western Conference.

This is despite Curry missing out for an extended period of time. In addition to this last month’s absence, he missed 11 games earlier in the season with a shoulder injury.

If Curry can stay healthy the rest of the way, the defending champions have a chance to climb the standings and make another run for the title.
