Google Messages is preparing to redesign the voice recorder [Gallery]

Date:

Google introduced transcription of voice messages with the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro before making it later available to older generations. Google Messages is now improving the composing experience with a redesign of the in-development Voice Recorder user interface.

About APK Insight: In this APK Insight post, we have decompiled the latest version of an app that Google has uploaded on the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APK files, in the case of Android apps), we can see different lines of code within that hint at potential future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be incomplete. We’ll try to enable those that are about to expire, however, to show you what they’ll look like if they charge. With that in mind, read on.

Today, you record a voice message by holding down the microphone icon until you finish the memo. You can “swipe to cancel” at any time, while the duration is noted to the left of the bar. Once finished, the message is placed in the text field with the ability to listen and delete.

In the upcoming redesign, which we’ve enabled, you can tap a new circular icon—a nice change to differentiate from Gboard’s nearby microphone—and the Messages app starts recording. Below the time elapsed indicator with a pulsating dot is a preview of the waveform.

You can click the stop button once with the ability to restart it right in this new user interface. This control is surrounded by “restart” and “done” to send.

The new voice recorder in Google Messages is quite fun with some weird touches/animations. Combined with compatibility with Dynamic Color, the experience clearly takes after the Pixel’s Recorder app.

It’s not clear when Google plans to start redesigning the voice messaging experience.

thanks for the JEB Decompilerwhich some APK Insight disassemblies take advantage of.
