Bulgaria: New Archaeological Finds Presented in Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia

Among the finds presented there were ceramic burial vessels, a studded book jacket and jewelry dating to the period between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries.
These artefacts were discovered in the vicinity of the monastery (in the picture above) during the course of the two-month long excavations in the summer of 2009, during which archaeologists found over 100 tombs. A total of about 1,000 precious, gold and silver objects and over 600 silver and bronze coins were found during the digs.
The 35 artefacts, which also include clothes weaved with gold thread, a silver-gold hair pin with a unique pearl, a ring from the French royal workshops and unique cups that used to be placed by the dead for the pouring of wine, will be displayed at the National Archaeological Museum for three months, starting on February 18.
